Verdict

Phantom Whisper has the beating of Danjet on their running at Lingfield and is taken to confirm that form with Merchant Bankes appealing most among the many newcomers. In years gone by this would have been the first two-year-old race of the season but that is no longer the case and the selection has the benefit of racing experience over the large majority of the field; Rod Millman's colt having created a favourable impression when beating Danjet at Lingfield. The runner-up has since franked the form by winning at Warwick and meets his Lingfield conqueror on the same terms. The London Gang has the beating of Tick The Box on running at Kempton on Saturday behind another Rod Millman horse and has to be respected. Kieren Fallon is an interesting jockey booking for Boumsong, while Frankie Dettori has been booked for Celeritas, although he is a relatively late foal. That is not the case for Merchant Bankes though. Bill Turner has a good record with his juveniles early season, particularly here, and the son of Observatory makes plenty of appeal on pedigree. Many others of the newcomers may prove worthy of a mention but they will need to be useful to beat Phantom Whisper, who has plenty in his favour and is taken to defy his penalty.
