        Verdict

        A middle-to-high draw could be essential here as the far-side rail is traditionally the place to be in events of this nature at Doncaster. And the in-form Carlton gets the selection as he has the prime position in stall 20. He is equally adept at making the running or coming from off the pace, and can land his fifth win in claiming grade if Darryll Holland can settle him into his rhythm at an early stage. The shortlist also has to include Proud Native, who is the apple of Alex Greaves' eye, and is ultra consistent at this level. He can be forgiven his below par effort at Kempton last time as he got loose in the preliminaries and thus failed to give a true account of himself. A better effort is anticipated today, but, in truth, he is a shade of his former self and he may struggle to reel in his stablemate Tayif, who despite not being the most reliable of characters, has hinted at a return to form of late. Legal Set has a strong constitution for racing and also has to be considered along with Further Outlook, who is better than his latest form figures would suggest.
