    Verdict

Hiawatha can take this claimer from Jabaar and Barking Mad. The selection has a little bit to find with both that pair on official ratings, but if you can ignore his latest effort and concentrate on his half length defeat of Champaign Sands at Ayr last month then he has a clear chance in this poor contest for the Roodeye. Although rain would be a slight concern, he has won on slow going on the fibresand at Wolverhampton in the past, so he should handle it ok. This is his optimum trip and Gavin Faulkner can partner him to victory with plenty of the others badly off at the weights with him. Topweight Jabaar has shown glimpses of form this season, beaten only a couple of lengths at both Doncaster and York in May before disappointing last time. He is another who specialises over 10 furlongs and ability alone should see him good enough to make the frame. Of the others, Barking Mad finished in front of Hiawatha last time they met in handicap company. He has run well with juice in the ground and loves this trip, so he looks likely to be the one to give the selection most to do, but our vote remains with Hiawatha.
