Verdict

With an average starting price of around 12/1, the last 10 winners of the Hilary Needler have not always been the easiest to find - Attraction being the obvious exception! So bearing that in mind, a chance is taken with TOM FOLAN, who has done very little wrong and she may represent great value when her odds are compared against those of Little Scotland, The Hermitage and Don't Tell Mary. That said Existentialist and Angelena Ballerina are others that merit respect and shouldn't be dismissed either. Angelena Ballerina has a large frame to fill and, having won over six furlongs with a cracking effort at Newmarket earlier this month; she is likely to have little problem coping with the stiff uphill finish. She also has a favourable high draw and, as contender from an unfashionable yard, she may well slip under the radar in the betting. Existentialist and Azif are closely matched on what they have shown so far. The former was impressive when landing a Windsor maiden last time out, though. A half-sister to the classy Ratio, Johnny Portman's filly can be expected to get better with age and she is worth keeping tabs on for the time being. Don't Tell Mary is related to several winners and made a very pleasing start at Bath a fortnight ago. She has a big sales race at Ascot in September as a target for the time being. A bold show tonight may initiate a much sooner trip to Berkshire, though. The Hermitage was nabbed on the line when she made her debut here at the start of this month. The daughter of Khelyef showed great potential on that occasion and, as Mark Johnston's filly then put the record straight by winning at Newmarket a fortnight ago; she has to be considered as a major player tonight. A low draw doesn't do her many favours, though. Having already been placed in a Listed race at York, Little Scotland comes here with solid claims. Her yard has a great record in this race and Tim Easterby's filly has to merit serious consideration. However, Tom Folan, who was third in the Lily Agnes at Chester three weeks ago; also has plenty to offer and, in the search for the most attractive betting proposition; the mount of Martin Dwyer gets the nomination as a punter's choice in a strong renewal of Beverley's seasonal highlight.
