Verdict

Maze gets the vote in the Chesham, with Feared In Flight, The Bogberry and Double Attack all to be respected. Bryan Smart has been in terrific form on the run-up to Royal Ascot, with his juveniles in particular flying. The fact that he nominates Maze from the wealth of talent at Hambleton House is a pointer in itself, and on the strength of an eye-catching winning debut at Newcastle, he is selected. The step up to seven-furlongs will be in his favour, and indeed he holds an entry in next year's Vodafone Derby. The field is littered with potential dangers though, not least Feared In Flight who created a big impression when storming home at York. Any rain that falls would not bother him, while Naas winner The Bogberry has plenty of scope, but might already need further. Mind you, his stable landed the Coventry on Tuesday so he cannot be discounted. Nor can the filly Double Attack who bolted up on her Hamilton bow and who will be suited by the step up in trip. Golan Knight is another that would probably prefer an even sterner stamina test in time, and in an open contest we shall rely on Maze.
