OCEAN WAR provided Godolphin with their first UK winner of 2011 and young French riding sensation Mikael Barzalona with his first winner on these shores. Always travelling well in behind the pace, the Derby entry stayed on well for pressure and was handed quotes of 33-1 for the Epsom feature. Dream Achieved, like the majority of the Hills runners on the cards, took the field along and ran respectably; handicapping may be the best option for him in due course. Maqaraat had shown ability in a backend maiden at this track in October and stepped up on that promise here. He had tracked the favourite but was rather left out in the cold as the field split into two groups; he stayed on well for second and can be expected to come on for the run - he has an entry in the Dante but not for Epsom at this stage. Midsummer Sun had been entered for the Derby last week and this half-brother to Midday was all the rage for this contest but he proved far too green to do himself justice. However, this run was not entirely without promise and it did take his illustrious sibling three runs to lose her maiden tag. Alkimos is the second foal of a modest performer but his sales price had risen from £20,000 as a foal to 50,000 guineas at the yearling sales and made a highly encouraging start to his career. It would be no surprise to see him make his mark in handicaps over middle distances later in the season.
