Nakheel is the class horse in this line up and looks capable of defying top weight, with Halla San an obvious danger and plenty of others in with chances. The selection put up one of the best performances so far in his career when runner up at Newmarket when stepped up to this trip last time. He acts on both good to firm and good to soft, so whichever way the weather goes he should be happy on the ground, and if he reproduces that latest effort or even finds further improvement at this trip then he will take plenty of beating. Halla San won with any amount in hand at Catterick a couple of starts ago, but was collared by an improver at Ripon last time. That was still a good run despite the defeat, as a further 2lb rise would indicate, and he can be heavily involved. The ultra consistent Bauer is a proven course performer and will get every yard of this but has gone up 10lb since his last run in September and things will be tougher here. Simondium is an interesting lightly raced runner who would probably want to go further, Kilimandscharo is in fine form but this is more competitive than he is used to and a 6lb penalty should find him out, while both Ballinteni and Mutawaffer are doubtful stayers for this judge, and the vote here goes to Nakheel.
