In depth

Verdict

Mr Sandancer will appreciate the drop to handicap company after tackling some smart performers of late. He ran well for a long way in the Feilden stakes at Newmarket, but that form has been let down by both the winner and runner-up in that event. He looks to have enough to do off top weight. Don Fernando, shaped well in what looked a competitive handicap over this trip, also at headquarters and looks sure to be involved in the finish. Tackling handicapper's for the first time should bring Light Scent into the equation. The Silver Hawk colt will need to leave behind him a poor run at Windsor on his re-appearance, but he would have a serious chance on his second to subsequent May Hill third, Shadow Dancing. Warwick winner Barman, was found out in better company last time and looks to have it all to do in this grade. Castle River, the winner of a muddling event at Beverley, has to be respected, but he has it all to do with Systematic on Leicester running. Systematic had Castle River 12 lengths behind him that day and meets his rival on 7lb worse terms, which should bring them closer together, but Mark Johnson's runner may be open to a bit more improvement.
