Verdict

Serena Brotherton won this last year on John Quinn's Pearl Castle, who looks certain to go well again despite a 5lb rise. He was behind Only Orsenfoolsies on soft ground at Hamilton last time but the winner is unlikely to run unless there is substantial rain. Sarah O'Brien has been in unstoppable form in bumpers in Ireland and has her first ride in this prestigious event on board RALPHY LAD. Alan Swinbank has placed him expertly to complete a hat-trick and though facing quicker ground off a 9lb higher mark he's taken to continue his, and his rider's, winning streak. Apterix had been in winning form over hurdles before landing a Thirsk maiden then wasn't beaten far when tackling a long trip at Musselburgh. Harriet Bethell is a very accomplished rider and her mount, Manhattan Swing, has been running at a higher level and will appreciate the drop in grade.
