Verdict

No favourite has won this in eight years. Likely market leader MIDTERM has the pedigree of a top-class performer and though he didn't please everyone with the manner of his victory in the Classic Trial at Sandown the time was very quick and he can enhance his Derby claims here. This will be by far the stiffest challenge he has faced as Foundation and Deauville, 1-2 in the Royal Lodge and both running well in the Racing Post Trophy, are also bidding to enhance their Epsom claims with preference just for the former. Kentuckyconnection ran a cracking race when fifth in the 2000 Guineas where he stayed on late but the remainder will need to find more if they are to challenge for honours.
