In depth

Verdict

Pagan Prince is taken to defy an 11lb rise in the weights as he bids to land this competitive event for the second year running, with Goodbye Mr Bond, Compton Drake and Cesare all worth considering as well. Pagan Prince has undoubtedly been saved with an autumn campaign in mind, as he did not reappear until August. It did not take James Toller's charge long to make up for lost time though, as he bolted up at Windsor before finding the draw against him on two subsequent visits to Kempton. He does not really act there anyway and will be more at home on the Knavesmire where Lisa Jones will be on board again. Goodbye Mr Bond is still at the right end of the handicap, and the Carlisle Bell winner returned to form at Haydock recently. He should get the strongly-run race that he needs, but will need things to fall right. Compton Drake is another in form at present, and he looked back to his best when scoring on Lingfield's Polyrack last time. Cesare is lightly-raced and open to improvement but may find conditions too fast today, while old stager The Prince has been in great heart in claiming company but has more to do now. Blonde Streak is interesting and should not be ruled out on his best form either, but Pagan Prince looks to have been laid out with this in mind, and despite carrying more weight this time, can follow up.
