In depth

Verdict

Will He Wish, Star Sensation and Rafferty are now being given a chance by the handicapper, with Star Sensation now three-pounds lower than for her Leicester win last June, while Rafferty hinted at a return to form when running on in a valuable Newmarket handicap last time, and the form of the race has been franked since by Everest. Riva Royale has won over course and distance - admittedly on good to soft going - from just a pound lower mark than today and could be interesting with cheekpieces fitted fro the first time. Prince Hector won here over eight furlongs last year from a three-pound lower mark, but has won from a higher rating so, with him clearly being in good heart, he warrants closer inspection too. Michelle Ma Belle is another that is surely edging towards a winning mark, Morning After us dropping in the weights and Samuel Charles remains consistent but can't get his head in front in handicaps. If I added that the bottom pair, And Toto Too and Ziet d'Alsace are also back to near winning marks, then you would probably not be surprised. The fact is that they are so maybe this is one of those races where it is best to pull up a chair and a drink and reflect on other matters for a moment or two. Or maybe the horse we have yet to mention, Bob's Buzz, who won over course and distance from a one-pound lower mark last season, can confirm the view that he was about to run a good race when fifth here on his last run. As such, he gets the call.
