Verdict

Three Boars takes another drop in grade and should make that count, with Pips Pearl and Backstreet Lad the principal dangers. This race should not take much winning, and after his fair second in claiming company at Leicester 17 days ago, Three Boars should take the beating. Willie Jarvis's gelding had been turning into a disappointment until the blinkers were applied for his all-weather bow at Wolverhampton in June when he produced an improved effort to be fifth in a class 6 handicap. That was over a mile and a half, but he was put back to 10 furlongs at Leicester, and ran well considering that he was hit in the face with the whip by the rider of the winner, He's a Star. This contest is even more modest and he should open his account. Pips Pearl probably appreciated the rain-softened ground when just touched off in a Ripon seller last time, but that was off a mark of 37 and she is not a great threat. Nor is Backstreet Lad who was two and a half lengths behind the selection at Wolverhampton and reopposes on slightly worse terms as well. This appears to be a cast-iron opportunity for Three Boars to come good.
