      Verdict

      A tricky heat to close proceedings with nothing confidently ruled out and COHERENT is taken to go one better than on his seasonal reappearance when runner-up at Beverley. He ended up comfortably beaten that day but the 1m2f trip on soft ground seemed to find him out and the drop back to 1m on quick ground can bring about an improved performance, especially if Jamie Spencer is allowed to dictate matters from the front. Takatul swooped late on debut to land a Thirsk maiden and could be anything whilst Harry Champion looked in need of the run at Sandown but Ataman could prove the main danger sporting a hood for the first time. He was only beaten a length when fourth in a decent Newbury handicap latest.
