In depth

Verdict

Cruising Bye is in the veteran stage but still perfectly capable of scoring at this level as he showed with a convincing victory over the track and trip in July. He's now on his highest ever mark, however, and the concession of 22lb to BERMEO may prove beyond him. Johnny Farrelly's charge won a 3m2f handicap at Newton Abbot a week ago and as that was a conditionals' event he escapes a penalty. Withoutdefavourite has never won in 24 starts under Rules but ran his best race for a long time over the course and distance last month and could get into the frame again. Torhousemuir is another maiden but he only just failed to get up over slightly shorter at Stratford and would be a definite threat on that form. Wells Gold made a reasonable debut over fences at Market Rasen and wouldn't need much more to get involved here.
