This is an interesting maiden with a number of big stables represented and making it onto the shortlist are Cape Enterprise, Triple Two, Heidenheim and Flamand, with vote going to Flamand. The selection looks the stronger of the two Luca Cumani-trained entries and, judged on his fourth over course and distance last time, when he may have needed the run after an absence, looks to hold solid-enough credentials in the card's opener. His form probably equates to the high 60s mark, which sets the benchmark at which the others have to aim. Cape Enterprise was third over course and distance last time, but that form equates to around the low 60s mark. Triple Two has yet to see the track but this son of Pivotal cannot be ruled out on breeding, even if his stable's runners tend to need an outing. Mark Johnston's Pitcairn Island needs to improve on what he has so far shown in two starts but is stepping up in trip today. Heidenheim showed promise on his Lingfield debut and it would be no surprise to see him improve over this longer trip. Of the others, Solarich, who cost 40,000 guineas, and Corker, who cost 88,000 guineas, should have better to come but will need to improve on what they have so far shown on the track, which, in turn, spins us back to the selection, which is Flamand.
