In depth

Verdict

Star Fern can follow up ahead of Bahama Belle, Song Koi, Fayr Firenze and Dress Pearl. Although having to carry most weight here, Star Fern could well be up to the task, having appreciated the strong pace when causing a shock at Southwell 10 days ago, popping in at odds of 66-1. Those sort of odds will not be on offer this time, and now that connections have found the key to him, a repeat under Chris Catlin looks on the cards, especially with his low draw to help. Bahama Belle is still a maiden but ran fairly well when third at Lingfield. The drop back in trip is a worry though and he is opposed. Song Koi was a beaten favourite over the minimum trip at Lingfield last time so the extra furlong should help, but he does not make much appeal, nor does Fayre Firenze due to his lengthy absence. Dress Pearl was galvanised by first-time blinkers when finishing fast to get second in banded company in May, but she too has been sidelined since and will surely need the run. Star Fern has the fitness edge and recent winning form so looks the one to be on
