Verdict

Compton Banker has not shown much in two starts for David Evans since being claimed out of Gerard Butler's stable but has been freshened up by a break and the return to the all-weather may bring about a return to form that may see his too good for his rivals here the best of who look to be Canterloupe and Trace Clip. Canterloupe is well treated judged by official BHB ratings but has yet to sparkle in two starts back on sand this winter and may be best watched at present. The 11-year-old Sharp Hat is still capable of fair form but has not won for a long time and of more interest may be the David Nicholls-trained Online Investor, who makes his belated debut on sand and would be interesting if handling the surface. Trace Clip is thrown in on the pick of his form when with Barry Hills but was well beaten in a claimer over five furlongs here last time and may not retain much of his old ability. Full Pitch faces no easy task giving weight away all round and a bigger threat may come from John Spearing's Cashel Mead, who is fairly treated and has only had four starts since May. The vote though goes to Compton Banker in the hope that the return to the all-weather brings about an improvement in his recent form.
