Verdict

Broughton Knows has an obvious chance on the evidence of some recent consistent efforts but faces no easy task giving weight away all round and preference is for Zaffeu, who gets the vote over Cosi Fan Tutte. The last mentioned represents the in-form stable of Martin Pipe and reverts to the flat having failed to sparkle over hurdles of late. He has been given a two-month break since his latest start and could be interesting. Stef Liddiard's Maria Bonita was slightly disappointing when favourite in a Southwell maiden last month and may do better back in this grade on the Polytrack. The booking of Eddie Ahern for Chain Of Hope takes the eye and he is another worthy of a mention along with the three-year-old Varuni but the vote goes to Zaffeu. Nick Littmoden's gelding made an encouraging return to the all-weather when a close fifth behind Turtle Patriarch in a course and distance handicap that is already beginning to work out well. A reproduction of that form may suffice in this company.
