In depth

Verdict

Division one of the Corscombe Novices' Hurdle may go to Grande Jet ahead of Thisisyourlife, Mystery and Whitton Park. Grande Jet might not have as strong a chance as stablemate Kercabellec in the second leg, but nevertheless commands respect on his promising debut third to the highly rated Garde Champetre at Bangor in December. A decent middle-distance horse on the level in his native South Africa, Nicky Henderson's charge appears to have acclimatized well and, with improvement to come, can open his account. Thisisyourlife found one too good in Graphic Approach at Hereford on his bumper debut, and as the latter opened his account over hurdles in fine style at Wetherby on Tuesday, should not be ruled out of a place at least. The ex-French Whitton Park was given a quiet introduction behind the impressive Emanic at Warwick three weeks ago and can only improve, while the likes of Whist Drive and Football Crazy should be noted in the betting. Polish import Mystery ran a race full of promise behind Optimaite on his British debut at Leicester, being bang in contention until two out, and may well give the selection Grande Jet most to do in an interesting affair.
