In depth

Verdict

Aleron is out to get the losses back and can do so, with Beamish Prince, Broadway Score and Bramantino out to stop him. Aleron had been biding his time on the Flat in the summer after being bought to go jumping, but managed to score at Newcastle. The plan was always to make a go of the winter game though, and this horse is so highly thought of that connections are dreaming of next year's Cheltenham Festival. So, it was a bit of a surprise when he was turned over on his debut over hurdles at Market Rasen, where Vinnie Keane maybe overdid the waiting tactics just a bit too much. He sat off the pace throughout, and was going like the winner all the way round, but his late thrust was not quite enough to get him past Karathaena, the margin in the end just a neck. Russ Garritty takes over now, and there will be a few long faces if he does not make amends. Beamish Prince has more to do than when comprehensively landing a weak claimer at Haydock, but Broadway Score has shaped well since being sent over timber and can be in the shake-up. Bramantino was a fair middle-distance sort on the Flat and is sure to have been well schooled, but has a lot on his plate here, as do the rest of them to stop Aleron.
