In depth

Verdict

Montifault stands out here and gets the vote over Fair Wind and Macgeorge. The Paul Nicholls-trained selection was very useful over fences and is one of a strong team of four that the Ditcheat handler has gone to war with in the hunter chases this season. Judged on his easy Ludlow success, he looks like one to follow in this sphere. Macgeorge, decent that he is, has a lot to find on the selection on Ludlow form, while Fair Wind built on his pointing successes by winning at Towcester and finishing a fair second at Exeter. He can go well, but there is no getting away from Montifault, something that his rivals might find happening at Warwick in the finale.
