In depth

Verdict

Captain Jacksparra can defy topweight at the expense of Roodolph and Teasing to name but two. Captain Jacksparra hung left in the closing stages when asked to go about his business at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago, and it was that rather than a 3lb rise for an earlier win that cost Kevin Ryan's charge victory. His two all-weather successes show that he is generally on the upgrade, and although having to shoulder topweight, he should have too much experience for Roodolph. The latter was only a cheap purchase but went in at the first time of asking at Folkestone last September, and shaped well on his reappearance despite running green and failing to settle. He will strip fitter now and should be followed over the next few weeks, if not today. Teasing has only been campaigned over six furlongs so far, but should get today's trip on breeding, while the remainder all need a watching brief. Captain Jacksparra sets the standard and is therefore the selection.
