Verdict

Quite a competitive little Amateur event and we'll go for Channahrlie, with Indiscret possibly rating his biggest danger. Take out a couple of spring runs from his form this year and Channahrlie has proven very consistent. He has won from a mark of 84, is rated 90 here but has a good rider taking five pounds off his back. Indiscret is the only course winner in the race although he comes here unraced for 180 days. That course win came from a mark of 67 and he is now rated 73. However, he's hardly been over-raced so can go well given the ground he wants. River Styx's sole chasing win came at Musselburgh and he has not proven himself at this trip. Pangeran will not lack for assistance from the saddle and can bag some place money, his last victory having come in May 2000, and he ha only ever won hunter chases. Martin Pipe's Sidewinder has yet to win a race but appeared to show a bit of improvement behind Punchy last time, but Blazing Batman, winner of a two-horse race at Exeter last time, is hard to fancy from nine pounds out of the handicap. Bear in mind that Indiscret will only run if there is significant overnight rain, while Pangeran will not if there is too much rain. For us, though, the vote goes to Channahrlie.
