Verdict

Tim Vaughan's Arctic Shadow ran well when chasing home Donaldson at Towcester two starts ago but he disappointed at Exeter subsequently and, along with recent Sedgefield winner Sam Cruise who is now 14lbs higher, he looks best watched in a race where it is hard to oppose WINCHESTER RED. The son of Gunner B has won his last two starts for Evan Williams, latterly in a conditional jockeys' handicap chase at Southwell on Sunday for which he escapes a penalty, and he has an obvious chance of completing the hat-trick. Esme Rides A Gaine won well enough at Hexham last month but a 5lb rise for that seems harsh. Peter Bowen has his string in good form and his runner Particle has to be respected but does have a bit to find with the selection on their running over hurdles at Worcester earlier this month, while Jackie Boy looks well treated on hurdles form but does have a long absence to overcome. Several have claims but, having won with plenty in hand on Sunday, Winchester Red does look the one to beat.
