In depth

Verdict

Princesse Grec can once again make the most of a lenient mark to make all against Plain Chant, York Rite and River Mere. Princesse Grec was all the rage on her return to fences at Worcester a week ago, despite lining up from a stone out of the handicap. Having beaten Muckle Flugga over hurdles at Hexham from a 21lb higher mark the time before, it was not hard to see why, and she races here with a further seven-pound penalty. The handicapper will catch up with her, that is for sure, but in the meantime she can strike while the iron is hot. Plain Chant seems to be improving and should run at least as well as he did when second at Worcester. York Rite made no impression when tried over three miles-plus at Hexham last time and may do better over this shorter trip, while River Mere has no less than 46 lengths to make up on the selection and that is far too much. Princesse Grec has been let in lightly and can take full advantage.
