In depth

Verdict

The merit of Ballypatrick's win at Fakenham is open to debate but he's by no means badly handicapped here. The mare Violin Davis has rattled up a hat-trick over the larger obstacles but this is her toughest task to date while Prince Tom and Midnight sail were both pulled up last time and have a bit to prove now. Richard's Sundance will ensure this is run at a good gallop while Fine Parchment also likes to race up with the pace as does Sarando, who has been lightly-raced over fences recently. TIME FOR SPRING has been waiting for the better ground and was just beaten off a similar mark over course and distance last season as well as running well at the Cheltenham Festival. He could be worth an interest in this if Noel Fehily can deliver him late. Qianshan Leader hasn't been seen since pulling up on his reappearance in October but has the past form to figure and Palace Jester still has time on his side and is preferred to the veteran Holmwood Legend and Nataani, now visored, of the others.
