Verdict

The penny has dropped for SPATE RIVER and he may be able to pick up some more prize money by getting the better of Sadler's Star and Alldunnandusted. Spate River was a fair handicapper on the level for Chris Wall, winning his last start in that sphere from a mark of 80, but it has taken a long time for him to get the hang of hurdling and it wasn't until his last two outings that he has shown any real promise. That was reflected in his mark which is now 13lbs higher than it was at Uttoxeter but his Flat class suggests that he should be able to cope with the rise now that he's found some form. Alldunnandusted is respected but a 9lb rise for a narrow course and distance victory could prove to be his undoing and more questions may be asked of the selection by Sadler's Star. Michael Blake's runner appeared to win with something in hand at Worcester and he's well worth considering in a competitive race but Spate River is preferred. (Ian Ogg)
