In depth

Verdict

Briscoe Place can take advantage of a favourable handicap mark and win this from Bureaucrat, Red Moor and Jacaranda. The selection has not been seen since flopping in a Fakenham handicap chase last December but has a chase rating of 127 and gets in here over hurdles from 7lb lower. Decent ground suits, he is unlikely to be found wanting for fitness and A P McCoy is in the plate, so he will do for us. Bureaucrat carries top weight and has the form to go with that, but Philip Hobbs's gelding has also has a lengthy enough break and has not really fired on his last couple of starts so looks best watched. Stablemate Jacaranda has won four of his last seven starts either over timber or on the level, and is respected, but probably needs a drop in the weights to win again. Newton Abbot scorer Red Moor looks best of the rest but is another who is weighted to the hilt and Briscoe Place gets the nod.
