In depth

Verdict

Government, Baby Barry and Hamaasy are the three for the shortlist here and Baby Barry is the one they all have to beat. Government is a dual purpose performer, having tried his luck over hurdles, but he has achieved more success on the all-weather recently, winning a claimer on his last visit to Southwell. Well beaten on turf and over hurdles since it would not be a surprise to see him play a leading role here. Hamaasy was a disappointment last time but had earlier run well twice in defeat to be placed. The one mile trip may have been beyond him on his most recent start but this furlong shorter trip will suit more and he can go well. Baby Barry has wins at Hamilton and Musselburgh to his credit this summer and has run creditably since. His overall level of form is above that of his rivals and he was placed here last year so he can handle the track. Baby Barry gets the vote.
