Verdict

We will stick with the far-from infallible formula of adjusted official ratings in the opener and side with Quincannon ahead of Monte Major, Up Tempo, Massey, Soba Jones, Awake and Old Bailey. To be fair, Awake was fancied by us last time to win but did not and is in fact 13 pounds worse off for the near three lengths he finished behind Quincannon over course and distance on that occasion and the latter should be able to confirm the form. He looks set to run a good race. Monte Major has bits of form that could make him interesting, while Up Tempo has proven he can win over course and distance and, having been trying longer trips of late, might show a bit more sparkle at six furlongs. Massey is another who knows his way around here and has form enough to get involved if in his best mood, while Old Bailey, who is another course and distance winner, has a good recent record here and is another to consider. Finally, Only If I Laugh, who races in first-time cheekpieces, and Rafters Music, who races in a first-time visor, are others to hold claims. However, for today, we will side with Quincannon.
