In depth

Verdict

La Neige sets the standard here and can prove too experienced for Duke Of Tuscany, with Asperity and Contentious best watched in the market. Since making a winning debut on soft ground at Nottingham in April, Mick Channon has set La Neige some pretty stiff tasks, running him in three Group races so far. Sixth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, the colt has since finished fourth in Goodwood's Richmond Stakes, and more recently, chased home Dhanyata in the Sirenia Stakes at Kempton. That level of form entitles him to the utmost respect in this company, and although he appears to be a bit highly strung, he should produce the performance needed to see off his rivals here, the best of whom should be Duke Of Tuscany. Richard Hannon's Goodwood maiden winner has scope, but will be better when put back over a mile, while of the rest, the betting will hopefully prove a reliable guide. Asperity, a son of War Chant, is entered for next year's Vodafone Derby, and Contentious, by Giant's Causeway, hails from a stable whose juveniles always come on for the run. La Neige has obvious claims and should safely get back to winning ways.
