Verdict

GRAVITATION is clearly favoured by the weights and is fancied to get the better of the progressive Judgethemoment and Victoria Montoya. The last two missed their intended targets in the Pitmen's Derby last weekend but have been found a suitable and less competitive substitute. Victoria Montoya is rated just 85 so has a mountain to climb at the weights but she has her ideal conditions and runs this track well so connections will be hopeful that she can enhance her paddock value by pinching some Black Type. Amerigo has run admirably in some of the top-staying handicaps since finishing second to Patkai in last year's Queen's Vase. The yard are enjoying a decent spell and he should be in the mix. Desert Sea also missed the Northumberland Plate and is closely matched with Amerigo on their running in the Chester Cup so has to hold every chance. Wells Lyrical came within three quarters of a length of scoring at Newcastle and is clearly progressive. He handles quicker ground too but there has to be a doubt as to whether he can reproduce that form under vastly different conditions just a week later whilst those to the fore last week were favoured by the draw and the way that the race was run. Judgethemoment has proved to be at home making the running which could prove to be the case this afternoon and he can have no better man on board than Richard Hughes who is adept at getting his tactics spot on. He has progressed well this season and deserves to take his chance at this level. Willie Jarvis has had to endure a slow start to the season and Gravitation ran a long way below her best over twelve furlongs in May. Those two facts will lead some to doubt her ability to take advantage of the 11lbs that she has in hand on official ratings and there's certainly ground for that argument. However, recent signs from the yard have been more positive and she should relish these conditions having won a Goodwood Group 3 on quick ground. She's unexposed at this trip, has the scope for further improvement and is the clear pick at the weights so we won't look beyond the obvious and will side with Gravitation.
