      Verdict

Usk Poppy, placed in both her starts this season, can go one better at the expense of Desert Flair and Lilac Star in this intriguing maiden. The selection, trained by the in-form David Elsworth, posted her best display of her career when a close third behind Wasseema in a decent maiden event over a mile at Goodwood. The winner has previously finished seventh in the Nell Gwyn to Speciosa, so the form has a solid look. Usk Poppy faded inside the final furlong that day, so this drop back a furlong shouldn¿t be a problem. Richard Hannon¿s Desert Flair made an encouraging reappearance following a 11-month layoff behind Ask No More at Lingfield and should improve for the run, but the form of the race is dubious - the winner was a 16-1 shot making its debut - and additionally the race was only 12 days ago, leaving Desert Flair open to the bounce factor. Lilac Star is one of the lesser lights in Pat Eddery¿s stable but improved on her debut performance when third to Goldolphin¿s Abhisheka at Nottingham. The winner has since been soundly thrashed at York, making the form look weak. In conclusion, it should be another success for the in-form team of David Elsworth and John Egan with Usk Poppy
