In depth

Verdict

A quality contest in prospect and hopefully HUZZAH can emerge a thoroughly deserving winner from Avon River and Baylini. Our pick hasn't won since 2008 but is now 7lbs below that winning mark of 93. Further to that he's been running well of late, taking fourth behind Crown Choice at Sandown last time despite a troubled late passage. The gelding has form on quick ground as well as ground with cut and looks set to run a big race, hopefully in victory. Dangers are plenty in this contest with Avon River possibly the pick. Richard Hannon's charge is now 12lbs higher than his last turf success two starts back but won at Kempton last time to advertise his wellbeing. He's one who wouldn't want rain to fall but with that unlikely he's sure to run well. Baylini continues to go well but is proving hard to win with and a similar scenario is likely here. She's racing off the same mark as when second last time and therefore is handicapped to go close but her best form is over further and winning may prove a step beyond her. Vainglory has been running well of late too and further emphasises the strength of this heat; David Simcock's charge won nicely at Newmarket before taking third over slightly further at Epsom last time. This trip will serve him better and he should go well, but carrying top weight to success in this is no easy task. Gaily Noble remains a turf maiden and is therefore opposable in such a warm contest whilst the unexposed Karaka Jack needs to prove he truly stays the trip and may be better off over seven. Mahadee is a better horse on the all-weather but that's reflected in his mark and he's another with each-way claims but we'll side with Huzzah in this.
