The unpredictable Downland has sprung surprises in much better contests than this and is no forlorn hope if he condescends to put in something like his best. However, he is a quirky character to say the least and cannot be relied upon too heavily. Tommy Smith also has his faults and is no certainty to follow up his victory at Pontefract on a track that has less demands on the stamina in a finish. Soaked has been kept busy of late and has to be feared on the pick of his form but needs to dominate his fields and may not be allowed to do so today. Awake should be on the premises in the closing stages but may struggle in conceding weight all round so a chance is taken Tancred Times ending a frustrating run, from what looks to be reasonable mark.
