Verdict

SQUIRES GATE deserves to win a race and is fancied to see off Chagal, Alensgrove and My Single Malt. Barry Hills' colt only found the well-touted newcomer Common Touch too strong at York last month. He is straight-forward, as the best form and this 83-rated son of Namid can break his duck. Chagal looks the most interesting newcomer and Kevin Ryan's American-bred colt needs a market check, as does Wolds Agent who is considered despite already being gelded. Alensgrove and My Single Malt have more experience; the former has improved with each run to date and cannot be overlooked despite looking a more likely nursery type, whilst the latter is bred for further than this six furlong trip but his debut form at Haydock reads well. At a price Misscomplacent may improve for the fitting of a visor, however the most solid option is Squires Gate.
