Verdict

John Kirkup loves testing ground as he once again proved at Ayr last month. A 3lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent another big effort but TANASOQ gets the vote. Paul Midgley's charge generally performs in better company on faster going but the assessor has given him a chance here, dropping him 11lb since returning to action in June, though he wouldn't want any more rain. Broken Spear hasn't won since 2018 but has dropped to a fair mark as a consequence and just failed to catch Orvar over 5f at Chester. Roundhay Park, a winner over this trip at York in July, was unlucky in-running when second at Chester and should make a bold bid for his sixth career victory while there are plenty of other dangers in a wide-open handicap including top weight Royal Residence, who belied his 100/1 SP with a cracking effort behind the favourite Staxton in the Great St Wilfrid here last month.
