In depth

Verdict

Bateleur stepped up on the form of his debut effort when landing a Bath maiden last time and Mick Channon's colt has to be respected on his first start in this grade but this looks tougher and preference is for Stevie Gee, who gets the vote ahead of Voodoo Moon. The selection had obviously shown something at home prior to his latest start at Southwell as Alan Swinbank's charge landed a real gamble at Southwell when backed from 25/1 into 8/1 and scored by a comfortable four lengths. He is a difficult horse to assess but it may be that the handicapper has let the son of Invincible Spirit in lightly here and he is taken to follow up on his debut in a nursery. Rainbow Fox found just Invincible Force too good in a Chepstow nursery last time and has place claims again, while stablemate Valley of The Moon could probably do with being dropped a couple of pounds and may be best watched off her current mark. Voodoo Moon is probably better than she showed at Leicester last time and is another to consider but preference is for Stevie Gee, who is taken to follow up his Southwell success.
