Course and distance winner Best Port deserves to win a race of this nature and gets our hopeful vote. A winner from a mark of 57 over course and distance last October, all of his career wins have come from August onwards in the season and, now racing off a mark of 53, his chance is there for all to see. Simple Ideals also won over course and distance last October from a mark of 40 and, from a rating of just 35, cannot be dismissed from the reckoning, despite his recent form being poor. Top weight Jadeeron has also to be given a chance, coming here as he does under a six-pound penalty for a recent Yarmouth victory. Lazzaz ran well from today's mark at Warwick last time, while Triplemoon is undoubtedly well handicapped if consenting to put her best foot forward. Her stable is certainly in form now. Michaels Dream is another who is well handicapped based on last season's winning form. Jenavive ran her best rate to date when stepped up to this trip last time, and the winner has won again since. From a canny stable, she too can be given a chance. On the day, though, in an interesting contest, we'll stick with Best Port.
