In depth

Verdict

Trainer Richard Fahey will have a good handle on things here as his Wootton Bassett, who ran at Doncaster yesterday, beat EASY TICKET when they met at Ayr, and it is to the latter we turn today, while Fahey's El Viento is likely to be a danger. The last-named was not far away over the minimum trip at Beverley on debut, staying on well after not having found much daylight and he did well to finish only a length adrift. Improvement is surely to come and he can go close. Stablemate The Mellor Fella makes his debut and he is related to juvenile winners over sprint trips, while he won't mind any ease in the ground, so he is worth a market check. Cathedral Spires showed a little improvement from first run to second and was another squeezed for room at the business end, so there may be more to come from Howard Johnson's gelding. Masonic Lady is a well bred newcomer, though she may be better over further and the yard hasn't had much success with its two-year-olds at this venue of late, and preference is for Easy Ticket. That effort on debut at Ayr was more promising than most here, he won't mind if rain eases the ground a little, and he is taken to show enough improvement to break his duck.
