In depth

Verdict

James Watt was no match for Angel Alexander at Windsor last week but the winner scored again at Chester on Saturday. APLOMB didn’t stay 7f at Musselburgh so that run is best ignored. He was only beaten a length on soft ground at Ascot previously, when well ahead of the disappointing Welcoming, and warrants another chance. Shallow Hal is eased in grade and Rhona Pindar takes off 7lb but the handicapper appears to have reeled in Lady Calcaria and Essenza returns from a lay-off while there are ground concerns surrounding Oberyn Martell.
