Verdict

SCEILIN is worth a chancing at this level. Stateside and General Tufto are in good form and can make a good fist of things, while New Zealand-bred Denton proved he has acclimatised with a win at Lingfield and, given the form of his stable, he is also likely to be popular in the betting. The last named finished second in a couple of maidens in Australia but was out of action for 17 months before he made his first start of Jeremy Gask in a modest event at Southwell last month. That outing obviously sharpened him up, as he won in good style on the all-weather 10 days ago. Simon Pearce is a good jockey booking at this level and, assuming the gelding doesn't suffer from the 'bounce factor' he is likely to be on the premises for Placepot punters at least. General Tufto is accustomed to races of this nature and has won for today's pilot in the past. Holly Hall takes 3lb off with her claim and, as the gelding proved he can handle turf with a near miss at Yarmouth last week, her mount will be a big threat again this afternoon. Stateside is a game filly and has already enjoyed a profitable season. However, she is now on a stiff looking mark and, having been well held at Pontefract last time out, she has a bit to prove on these terms. Therefore, it can pay to take a punt on things unfolding to suit Sceilin, who has shown plenty of zest in her last two starts. John Mackie's mare is a tough battler on her day and, considering that she seems versatile regarding the ground, Sceilin will be very hard to peg back if she tries to slip the noose again today.
