Verdict

With very few of these arriving in form the way looks clear for SHARP SOVEREIGN to send favourite backers home happy; Applaude, Dinner Date and Major Promise are worth considering for those seeking a bit of value. David Barron's charge is a couple of pounds higher than when just touched off last time, but that was his third good run from as many starts this year and he should continue to run well with conditions ideal. Prior to that he'd won tidily at Yarmouth and connections appear to have found another suitable opportunity, one that he should take. Applaude returns to handicap company having been readily brushed aside in a fair claimer last time. There's no doubt he's got a bit to do here conceding weight to some less exposed types but the horse is generally consistent, versatile in terms of conditions and could just pinch a place at a rewarding price. Dinner Date is another reliable type and his sole success on turf did come over today's trip. He was left for dead behind a thrown-in sort last time and will find this easier so a place on the podium looks likely. Major Promise is another to have seen the wrong end of an impressive winner last time but he did have the rest beat and is perhaps fortunate to race of the same mark, so along with Sanctum is another to consider. The last-named needs to improve but has the potential to do so and a market check is strongly advised. King Zeal is weighted to get closer to Sharp Sovereign than he did last time but the last-mentioned horse remains the one they all have to beat and gets the vote.
