In depth

Verdict

There are any number to consider but we will suggest a shortlist of Swan Queen, Green Room, Sumptuous, Welsh Cake and Zaafran, and select Sumptuous. Green Room and Swan Queen are both by In The Wings and trained by John Dunlop, and have a lot to like on breeding, so must be considered, while Holda has a likeable pedigree and her stable is in good form. Marcus Tregoning's Mazeej cost $400,000, while Pearl's Girl, Sand Sprite, Sumptuous and Dayrose, are among those that should be watched in the betting, the last three being trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Welsh Cake is a half sister to Trans Island and at least has some experience to draw upon, having improved from her debut to finish second last time, while Zaafran holds possibilities being by Singspiel from the family of Oh So Sharp. There are others besides to consider but, while acknowledging that it is a bit like a needle in a haystack, we will opt for Sumptuous who, being by Pivotal, should handle the going.
