In depth

Verdict

Patavellian is taken to come out on top over a decent bunch of speedsters such as The Tatling, Baron's Pit and improver Presto Shinko. The latter has in fact been on a roll, adding to a couple of earlier handicap wins by gaining his biggest success to date in the Ayr Gold Cup. He was given a great ride by Seb Sanders that day though and Alan Munro may find it tough to repeat the feat as Richard Hannon tests his four-year-old's ability against Group animals. The best of them on this occasion may well be Patavellian whose yard have been mopping up big-race events of late with the likes of Blue Monday and Avonbridge, and this course and distance winner looks all set for a big run. The former Stewards Cup winner captured the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye two years ago, and was not far behind stablemate Avonbridge in this year's renewal, so will not be phased by today's opposition, that's for sure. Any rain that falls will increase his chances, but even so Patavellian sets the standard. The Tatling seldom wins over six furlongs and he was a place behind the selection at Longchamp, while Baron's Pit caused a surprise when landing the Group 2 Diadem last time and should not be discounted. Moss Vale looks held by a few of these on various outings this term, and for the winner we return to Patavellian.
