In depth

Verdict

Achill Bay is pitched into conditions company on only his second start but may be up to the task, with Edaara and Envision expected to give him most to do. Achill Bay shaped like a sure-fire future winner when going narrowly to Narvik in a maiden over seven furlongs here last month, and he would surely have started odds-on for any run-of-the-mill maiden next time. However, he is obviously highly rated to be tackling this better contest and the hint should be taken. The step up to a mile will suit this son of Peintre Celebre and this trip could turn out to be his best next year despite him holding a Vodafone Derby entry. Edaara's reputation preceded her to the racecourse as she went off as market leader for a Yarmouth maiden in September. Willie Haggas's filly finished only third but runs here in preference to the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes on Saturday, so her chance has to be respected. Of the rest, Envision, a close up seventh in the St Leger Yearling Stakes at Doncaster makes some appeal but she is not bred to get the trip. Red Rocks seemed not to stay when third over the course and distance last time but is worth a mention at least in a race that should see Achill Bay take all the beating.
