Verdict

FOUNDATION probably didn’t do himself any favours when odds-on for the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October but there was no arguing that he would have gone very close to maintaining his unbeaten record had he had a clear run. He was beaten four lengths by winner Marcel in the end, though was allowed to come home in his own time. It will be a surprise if he doesn't get back on track today and confirm his place in the 2000 Guineas as form lines through Johannes Vermeer that place Criterium second Stormy Antarctic close to the Gosden colt may be slightly flattering. He is still preferred, however, to Godolphin's Very Talented and the Aidan O'Brien entry Shogun, who may be on a fact-finding mission. The Hannon pair Tony Curtis and Steel of Madrid don’t look up to this level.
