In depth

Verdict

Culcabock has more to do under his penalty than when allowed a free role up front in a small race at Ayr and preference is for Edmo Yewkay, who failed to land a blow having been sent off as favourite in a large field over course and distance earlier this month. A winner over seven-furlongs on the flat, he was a much better horse on the level than Culcabock, and with the benefit of that experience he can come out on top here. Southern raider Masterpoint was much the best of these on the flat, but there must be some doubt as to whether he will stay this far, as he is out of a winning sprinter and is related to several other speedy sorts. Rockerfella Lad, the winner of a mile seller on the flat when tried in a visor for the first, has also tried blinkers in that sphere and it is interesting that connections have left them off here. While he is respected he may need the experience, and as Edmo Yewkay has the benefit of an outing over timber, he gets the vote.
