Verdict

No favourite has won this in nine years. Jan Smuts was successful a year ago and is the only course and distance winner in the line-up. He's inconsistent and hasn't won subsequently though he's only 2lb higher. Roc De Prince has no problems with the trip having landed an amateurs' race at Musselburgh last weekend for which he's picked up a 6lb penalty. The veteran LA BACOUETTEUSE hardly ever wins away from Musselburgh these days but is back on exactly the same mark as when last successful. Gary Whillans' claim will aid his cause and he's given the verdict in a tight handicap. Arthurs Secret stays extreme distances and may find the ground a bit quick unless more rain arrives and Bowdler's Magic hasn't won since 2012 though he's dropped to a lowly mark as a consequence.
